According to a note, the IPMA says that northwest waves are expected to reach 5 meters in height in the districts of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Leiria, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga.

The six districts will be under yellow alert at least until 3 am on Friday, 20 February.

The rain will continue in mainland Portugal today, mainly in the north and central regions, but nothing too serious, according to meteorologist Cristina Simões, adding that next weekend will be sunny.

“We will continue with precipitation in the north and central regions. It is not a very serious situation; however, there will always be some precipitation. Some frontal surfaces will pass through, mainly affecting the north and centre. The southern region is more protected by the anticyclone, which is already closer to the mainland,” Cristina Simões told Lusa.

According to the meteorologist from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), this situation of rain and showers will continue until today and may even include snow in the Serra da Estrela mountain range.
