In a statement, the company says that "Ryanair welcomed [yesterday] the decision of the Dublin Circuit Court to order a Dublin man to pay €15,000 in damages for forcing more than 160 passengers and six crew members to divert to Porto, after assaulting passengers and crew on board a Ryanair flight from Dublin to Lanzarote."

The company also says it is "committed to ensuring that all passengers and crew travel in a comfortable environment, free from unnecessary disruption caused by a small number of unruly passengers," reinforcing its "strict zero-tolerance policy towards passenger misconduct."

What happened?

The case dates back to 9 April 2024, when the behaviour of a passenger travelling between Dublin and Lanzarote, Spain, forced the flight to be diverted and land in Porto. The procedure cost Ryanair €15,000 in accommodation, passenger expenses, and landings, causing 160 passengers to experience travel disruptions.

The company revealed the lawsuit in early 2025, stating that it had asked the Irish court for compensation of €15,000.
