The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Food, António Ventura, quoted in a press release, underlines that the decision “is part of the regional strategy to strengthen plant health and promote sustainable solutions for pests with economic and environmental impact, such as those affecting the chestnut tree”.
“The risk assessment now awarded represents an essential step to ensure that all options are analysed in a responsible, balanced and transparent manner,” stated the government official.
Controlling Chestnut Gall Wasp in Portugal
The Regional Government of the Azores, through the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Food, has awarded the Gaspar Frutuoso Foundation a risk assessment regarding the potential introduction of the biological agent “Torymus sinensis” into the archipelago, for the control of the chestnut gall wasp.
