According to SIC Notícias, runway 2 will be built next to a stream that also crosses the site between the future runways 3 and 4. Therefore, it will be necessary to divert the watercourse, which will increase the project's cost.

Thus, the runways that were planned to be further to the left of the Alcochete Shooting Range have been diverted and are now parallel to National Road 10 and the A13 motorway.

Experts, quoted by SIC Notícias, also say that beneath the Alcochete Shooting Range lies one of the largest freshwater reserves in the Iberian Peninsula, which could be contaminated due to the construction of the Luís de Camões Airport.

However, the environmental impact study has not yet been finalised and could take a year to complete.
