"The National A Team will face Chile on 6 June, in a game included in the preparation stage for the 2026 World Cup," the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) announced.
This game, which will be the fifth in history between the two countries, is part of the team's preparation plan, coached by Roberto Martinez, and will be preceded by another, also friendly, still without an opponent, to be held in Leiria on 10 June.
The World Cup starts on 11 June, but the Portuguese team, in Group K, will only make its debut on 17 June, in Mexico City, against the winner of the first leg of the intercontinental play-off, played in March by Jamaica, New Caledonia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In the second round, on 23 June, in Houston, Portugal will face Uzbekistan and, in the third, on 27 June, in Miami, the Colombian team.
In addition to the friendly against Chile, which did not qualify for the World Cup, Portugal has preparatory matches against Mexico, on 29 March (28 March in Mexico), at the Azteca Stadium, and against the United States, on 1 April (31 March in the United States), in Atlanta.
On Tuesday, 24 February, the FPF said it was monitoring the violence situation in Mexico, almost a month before the visit to the Mexicans at the Azteca Stadium, and that "any decision will be made as a result of permanent monitoring, in close coordination with the Government and in line with the Mexican Football Federation."
