The mayor emphasises that IKEA's arrival not only reinforces Coimbra's attractiveness as a commercial and service hub but also boosts local commerce by attracting visitors from across the country. Carla Pereira, expansion director of IKEA Portugal, reinforces this view, noting that the success of the Planning Studio opened in 2021 had already confirmed the city's high strategic potential.
With the opening of the store, the group is now starting a recruitment process for approximately 34 new employees, whose vacancies are already available for online consultation. This investment is seen as a significant milestone for regional economic development, creating new job opportunities and consolidating Coimbra's position as a leading destination for specialised shopping in the heart of Portugal.
