The total amount of loans granted to individuals grew by 9.8% in the first month of the year, compared to the same period last year, which was the highest growth rate since February 2008.
The central bank highlights the 'stock' of housing loans, which increased by 803 million euros compared to December, totalling €111.7 billion at the end of January.
In annual terms, this value represents an extension of the "acceleration trajectory observed since January 2024", growing by 10.4%.
Meanwhile, the amount of loans to consumers and other purposes rose by €49 million compared to December, to €33.8 billion, an increase of 7.9%, "stabilising at 7.3% in loans for consumption and rising to 8.9% in loans for other purposes."
The BdP also has data on companies, showing that loans to companies grew by 3.7% year-on-year in January.
