The ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal website warns that weather forecasts indicate adverse conditions that may affect operations (departures and arrivals) in the coming days, urging passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
According to information available on the ANA website, between 8 am and 11 am on 27 February, no planes landed at Madeira International Airport – Cristiano Ronaldo, located in the municipality of Santa Cruz, and only one took off, affecting 14 flights. In total, 20 flights have been cancelled today, including arrivals and departures.
Weather warning
The Port Authority of Funchal, meanwhile, extended the strong wind warning for the sea around the Madeira archipelago until 6 am on Saturday, 28 February. According to forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), the north/northwest wind will be strong at times (51-61 kilometres per hour), especially during the afternoon.
