The distinction was awarded during the 5th Smart & Green Tourism Conference on 27 February, which aims to “value organisations with a consistent track record and contribution in the field of sustainability in tourism.”

In a statement, Turismo do Algarve also reveals that “the distinction aims to recognise entities that, throughout their journey, demonstrate a commitment to sustainability practices, environmental and social responsibility, and the responsible evolution of the tourism sector in Portugal, reinforcing the importance of an increasingly integrated approach to the management and promotion of destinations.”

The President of Turismo do Algarve, quoted in the press release, states that “this distinction constitutes a relevant recognition of the work developed by the region in promoting more responsible and sustainable tourism, and reinforces the importance of continuing to consolidate good practices that protect the territory, value the communities and enhance the experience of those who visit us.”
