After being elected mayor of Coimbra in October, Ana Abrunhosa stated that her first measure would be to move the citizen service offices, which have been located in the D. Pedro V Municipal Market since 2023, to the City Hall.
When questioned by the Lusa news agency, the councillor responsible for municipal buildings and equipment, Luís Filipe, said that the relocation of the service offices is underway.
According to the councillor, this has not yet happened because relocating the services currently in the City Hall to another space had to be found.
“We have already found a space, ceded by the CCDR [Regional Coordination and Development Commission] on the ground floor in the Jardim da Manga square, which is still under construction,” he stated, believing that the process will be completed in two to three months.
According to Luís Filipe, it will be necessary for “the people who are in the space of the previous service point to leave” so that the customer service can return to the Town Hall.
That central space “is theirs by nature,” he emphasised.
According to the councillor, the space is currently occupied by the Urban Planning Department, which deals with the urban centre of Coimbra.
The transfer of the CCDR (Regional Coordination and Development Commission) will be free of charge and has already been formalised, he stated, clarifying that the impasse is solely due to the rehabilitation works.
“The first [measure to be taken] is to meet with the City Hall workers and decide to move the citizen services [at the D. Pedro V Municipal Market since 2023] to the City Hall. It is a promise I made and that I will fulfill as quickly as possible,” Ana Abrunhosa stated after the election, in an interview with the Lusa news agency.
