Portugal will be hit by Depression Regina between 2 and 3 March, bringing rain and wind, but the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) does not foresee significant effects.
According to the IPMA, this new depression originates from North Africa and will isolate itself during the afternoon of Monday, 2 March, affecting the weather in mainland Portugal, with rain and winds, particularly in the southern region, without, however, causing "significant effects".
Depression Regina will then move to the South/Southwest, affecting the weather in the Madeira archipelago.
According to the IPMA, periods of rain or showers are expected on Monday, 2 March, more intense and frequent in the Central and Southern regions, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms from the afternoon onwards.
IPMA forecasts an intensification of wind, starting on the morning of 2 March, blowing from the North with gusts of up to 80 km/h, reaching up to 110 km/h in the highlands of Madeira Island.
On Tuesday, 3 March, the wind will intensify, blowing from the North/Northwest, with gusts of up to 95 km/h, reaching up to 120 km/h in the highlands of Madeira Island and gradually decreasing in intensity from the morning of Wednesday, 4 March.
Showers are also expected, which will occasionally include hail, especially on the northern slopes and in the highlands of Madeira Island, with snow above 1,500 metres altitude on Tuesday, 3 March.
The sea will also be rough, with waves from the Northwest reaching significant heights of 4 to 5 meters from the afternoon of Monday, temporarily increasing to 5 to 6 meters on Tuesday, 3 March, and potentially reaching a maximum of 11 metres.
Due to this situation, Orange warnings for gusts and rough seas, and Yellow warnings for snow, have already been issued and will be updated over the next few days; monitoring is advised.
In the circulation of the Regina depression, IPMA also predicts the transport of dust from the Sahara Desert, which will be suspended over the mainland territory until 4 March.

You need to check your dates before sending stuff out to alarm everyone. Regina was Monday and Tuesday today is Wednesday and it didn’t arrive anyway
