Among other proposals, Chega intends to present projects for VAT exemption for essential foods and a temporary mechanism for reducing fuel prices.
Suspension of asylum applications
In a press conference, the leader of Chega announced that the party will propose "a suspension of the entry of asylum applications into Europe from the Middle East," namely from Iran, Lebanon, Syria and Iraq, in order to avoid a new "migration crisis" following the military attack against Iran.
André Ventura justified that these areas are "highly destabilised again, and it was precisely these countries that caused the migration crisis of 2014 and 2015, which is still being paid for to a large extent because there was no control," and argued that "Europe will not withstand another wave of refugees of this type without systemic political movements."
Proposal to European Union
According to the deputy, Chega will present this proposal in the Assembly of the Republic at the same time as the European group of Patriots for Europe advances it in the European Parliament.
First, André Ventura said that the proposal aims for the measure to be in effect for six months, but later admitted that it could be extended "for as long as necessary while the area is destabilised."
And he admitted exceptions: "Absolutely inescapable cases of humanitarian situations, such as women persecuted by regimes or political opponents fleeing political persecution."
Reduction of fuel prices
Anticipating an increase in fuel prices and inflation, Chega will also propose reintroducing the "temporary mechanism for reducing the tax on petroleum products," adopted following the war in Ukraine, "at the end of this month."
Ventura argued that the discount on the Tax on Petroleum Products should be used to "contain the costs to the taxpayer of the increase in oil prices."
This measure would have an "exceptional and temporary character" and "an automatic reversal mechanism when prices stabilise, ensuring transparency regarding its fiscal impact," and would be "indexed to an objective benchmark of international prices," he explained.
The Chega party also wants essential foods to be exempt from VAT again.
Revised budget
Speaking to journalists, the president of Chega considered that the government's presentation of a revised budget is "increasingly unavoidable" given the "need for new financial instruments to respond to the energy crisis and the inflationary crisis."
"It is something that I hope can happen soon, and that the Government can announce at least soon what measures it expects to take for this. If nothing is done, we will have an uncontrolled increase in fuel prices in the coming weeks, both in Portugal and in the rest of Europe, and we will have a very significant increase in the prices of essential goods next month or the following month," he warned.
Chega will schedule a debate in parliament on these measures, and André Ventura indicated that the party will accept proposals from other parties for discussion as well.

It is reasonable under current circumstances and global turmoil. Nuclear dissuassion is critical for Europe.

This guy has more brains than everyone in Brussels. Guess who will have to leave the newly liberated Iran, ex secret police, IRGC staff, extremists who would be unwelcome in a democratic Iran, in other words, hardliners and bad people.

Perfectly sensible. Any nation or political party that allows mass migration from countries with antithetical or highly divergent cultures, morals, and political instincts basically wants to destroy their nation.
