This measure, proposed by the mayor, a member of the socialist party, José Dinis Serra, and approved at a council meeting on 2 March, guarantees free school meals for all pupils in the school group, regardless of income bracket.
The measure will come into force on the first day of the third school term and aims to ensure meals that are ‘safe, balanced and adequate’ for the nutritional needs of pupils, the council said.

This is a mistake brought on by naivete. In the school district where I work in the USA, the only thing generated by so-called "free" (unfree and forced tax generated) meals is incredible waste and discarded food. One teacher took all the untouched fruit and vegetables and gave it to a neighbor who farmed a few hogs. Thankfully, the pigs ate very well. Please make sure that the local Portuguese hogs are also treated to socialist largesse.

I think this is a wonderful initiative to ensure that children get access to a meal no matter what their circumstances.

You better keep your American low IQ views with yourself (or your own pig barn and your Couch...) don't let such dirt come out to this beautiful world and make a mess.
