This represents a 4.0% increase compared to the same month in 2025, according to data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon handled 56.6% of the total passengers (2.5 million), a year-on-year increase of 3.4%, while Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport in Porto handled 23.6% of the total (1.0 million passengers, equivalent to a 9.6% increase).
Gago Coutinho Airport in Faro recorded a 2.5% year-on-year decrease, handling 302,100 passengers, equivalent to 6.8% of total traffic.
Cristiano Ronaldo Airport in Funchal was the third busiest airport in terms of passenger traffic in the first month of this year, with a year-on-year increase of 4.8%, reaching 345,900 passengers.
On average, 68,200 passengers disembarked per day, up from 65,600 in the same month last year.
Landings in Portugal
Throughout January, 16,500 aircraft landed at national airports on commercial flights, a 2.9% increase year-on-year.
Spain was the main country of origin for flights, with a 5.6% increase in the number of disembarked passengers, followed by France (-3.8%), while in terms of destinations, the positions were reversed, with France occupying first place (a 4.1% drop in embarked passengers) and Spain second (a 5.4% increase).
The United Kingdom ranked third both as a country of origin and a country of destination, with increases of 1.5% in disembarked passengers and 3.2% in embarked passengers.
"Brazil and Germany alternated between fourth and fifth positions, depending on whether it is the country of origin or destination of the flights," adds the INE.
In terms of cargo and mail handled at national airports, there was an annual decrease of 1.6%, to 17,992 tons.
Lisbon airport handled 13,679 tons, equivalent to 76.3% of the total and an annual decrease of 2.4%, while other airports saw an increase of 1.0%.
