The meeting was described as constructive and substantive. Officials signalled interest in negotiating the removal of certain tariffs as part of broader trade discussions.

Canada used the visit to introduce its new chief trade negotiator, Janice Charette, and newly appointed ambassador to the U.S., Mark Wiseman. Washington has already begun discussions with Mexico, while bilateral U.S.–Canada talks are expected to start the week of 16 March. The agreement, called CUSMA in Canada, requires periodic review by the three member countries.
