Held at Pashmina Restaurant in Carvoeiro on Sunday, 1st March, those attending experienced a delicious Indian buffet with live music and dancing from local celebrities, Tiago, Mandy Davies and Rob Lowe.

The afternoon was organised by local residents Jackie Steadman & Jane Sutherland, with the help of other local volunteers, selling raffle tickets and encouraging donations. Jackie, the owner of a successful travel business in the UK, Traveltime World and Jane, a Yoga Teacher in Carvoeiro, are no strangers to fundraising for Aryels Garden. Between them, they were able to source a selection of fantastic raffle prizes, including airline tickets, luxury hotel stays, spa treatments & restaurant vouchers. Prizes were donated by international companies and local businesses that benefit from tourism and like to support local communities and charities.

Aryels Garden was set up by Irene Nunes six years ago to rescue vulnerable animals, providing a safe haven and a second chance for animals who, through no fault of their own, are in desperate circumstances. Currently, they are looking after 275 cats, 22 dogs, 2 goats, 1 donkey and numerous hens. The charity ensures that each animal receives veterinary care, nourishment, shelter and socialisation. Where possible, they are carefully matched with potential adoptive families or with a ‘godparent’ who makes a small monthly donation.

In addition, the charity supports the “colonies” in the area, ensuring regular food supplies, and runs a sterilisation programme to keep the colonies contained. Their valuable work not only transforms the lives of animals but also strengthens the wider community by promoting responsible ownership and compassion.
