In a statement, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) says that the Therese depression "will be centred west of mainland Portugal," affecting weather from late afternoon on Tuesday through Saturday.

Thus, from 17 March, "an increase in cloudiness is expected throughout the territory, and there will be the possibility of showers from late afternoon, which will be more likely on the coast of the southern region," reads the note.

On Wednesday, 18 March, the IPMA adds that the depression will cause "showers, which will be more likely in the Centre and South and mainly on the coast, which may be locally intense and accompanied by thunderstorms."

The wind will oscillate between "the eastern and southern quadrants" and will increase in intensity, sometimes blowing strongly along the coast and in the highlands, with gusts of up to 65 kilometres per hour.

Regarding sea conditions, IPMA says that a "temporary increase" is expected on the west coast, with northwest waves that could reach close to four meters in significant height.

In the note, IPMA adds that no weather warning has yet been issued regarding the passage of the Therese depression, "given that there is a high degree of uncertainty" regarding its position in the coming days, which will influence both the location and the amount of precipitation that may occur.
