The infrastructure is expected to create 400 jobs by 2027, as the city council announced.

The municipality in the northern Vila Real district stated that Spanish multinational Cortizo's investment is "one of the largest business projects ever undertaken in the municipality."

It explained that the future factory is being installed in the Chaves Business Park, on approximately 30 hectares, where an industrial complex of about 80,000 square meters dedicated to aluminium processing will be built.

The municipality stated that the unit should begin operations at the end of 2027, potentially creating up to 450 direct jobs and contributing significantly to the local economy.

“This investment is the result of institutional cooperation between the municipality and the company, initiated in 2020, which over the last few years has allowed the necessary conditions to be met for the project's realisation,” added the council led by the socialist Nuno Vaz.

The project has been classified as a Project of National Interest (PIN), thus benefiting from specific incentives and support mechanisms.

The Chaves City Council stated that “the new factory will be the most modern in the group, integrating advanced technology and automated production systems, covering the entire aluminium transformation cycle, from extrusion to final finishes.”

Along with creating skilled jobs, the project is expected to boost the local and regional economy, enhance business attractiveness, and encourage new companies to establish in Alto Tâmega.

Founded over five decades ago in Galicia, Cortizo is dedicated to the production of aluminium and PVC systems for architecture and industry and has a presence in several European countries.
