Café Aviz is a classic spot in Porto. This old café is located on Rua do Aviz, right in the busy downtown area. It feels cozy and full of history, different from the more modern new places around. Nowadays, people go there for traditional food and to play pool.

It was opened in 1947, just after World War II. It first started as a tea room with chandeliers and nice art inside. Soon, the students made it their hangout.

The place has two floors. Downstairs, you find the billiard room, where younger people used to hang out. Upstairs feels more elegant; it has an Art Deco style, which creates a perfect environment for enjoying traditional meals such as Francesinha, Porto's most famous dish, usually made with meat covered in cheese, but vegetarian options are available as well.

Café Aviz proves that Porto's history is still alive. It was built to bring people together and still does today. Have you visited Café Aviz? What's your favourite café in Porto?
