In 2024, they had 25 cats adopted, and in 2025, they managed to re-home 34 cats during the year, against a target of 24 each year. However, due to efforts to get the CCCA name out there, they have homed 19 cats so far this year (up to 14 March). This is a great result but there are still over 200 cats in the shelter, many needing a loving home.

Some of the cats in the shelter are not available for adoption for various reasons; some have feline AIDS, others feline Leukaemia, and yet more have the Calicy virus, all of which require special care and increased maintenance costs; some are still partly feral.

But over 100 ARE available for adoption. Some are white or have white ears or pink noses and can only be adopted as indoor cats because, due to their colouring, the strong Algarvian sun gives high levels of UV and heat, which makes them susceptible to skin cancer, particularly to their noses and ears.

All the cats under the care of CCCA are vaccinated, sterilised and microchipped, and are socialised with humans because of the daily contact with volunteers who go into their houses to give them their food, clean and top up the water bowls, clean the litter trays, check and replace their bedding and importantly - chat to and cuddle the cats!

Not everyone is in a position to adopt, but CCCA also has a sponsorship programme, whereby you can sponsor a cat, and €20 per month will go a long way towards the annual cost of feeding a cat, its annual vaccinations and any veterinary visits, plus the cost of cat litter.

If you would like to adopt or sponsor a cat, volunteer at the shelter or make a donation towards their monthly running costs, please contact them at ccc.carvoeirocatcharity@gmail.com or +351 918 552 778
