The Quarteira Europe Triathlon Cup returned to the Algarve this weekend, bringing elite female triathletes from across Europe to compete along the town’s seafront. The race followed the standard Olympic distance format, beginning with a 1.5-kilometre swim in the Atlantic, followed by a 40-kilometre cycle along the coastline, and finishing with a 10-kilometre run through the streets of Quarteira.
First held in 2009, the Quarteira event has become a regular fixture on the European triathlon calendar and is considered an important early-season race, offering valuable ranking points and a chance for athletes to test form ahead of the summer competition season.
Despite breezy coastal conditions, crowds gathered along the course to watch the race unfold, particularly along the run section where spectators could see the athletes pass multiple times. Events like this continue to reinforce the Algarve’s reputation as a destination for international sport.
