"The food basket monitored by DECO PROteste costs €254.99 this week, which represents a slight increase of €0.60 compared to the previous week. Even so, this increase again represents the highest value since the consumer protection organisation began this analysis in 2022," it indicated in a statement.

Since the beginning of the year, buying this basic basket has cost €13.17 more.

A year ago, the same purchase cost €16.49 less, while at the beginning of 2022, it was possible to spend €67.29 less.

The food basket includes meats, frozen foods, fruits and vegetables, dairy products, groceries, and fish.

Among others, products such as turkey, chicken, mackerel, hake, onions, potatoes, carrots, bananas, apples, oranges, rice, spaghetti, sugar, ham, milk, cheese, and butter are considered.

Between 25 March and 1 April, the products whose price increased the most were mackerel (29%), plum tomatoes (24%), and cauliflower (17%).

Since 5 January 2022, when Deco began this monitoring, the largest percentage increases have been recorded in beef for cooking (124%), cabbage (109%), and eggs (84%).
