The company announces the opening of stores in Alhos Vedros, in the Setúbal district, in Vila Real and in Beja.

In a press release, the brand says that "Mercadona, which already has 70 stores in Portugal, announces that its new supermarket in Alhos Vedros, in the municipality of Moita, is scheduled to open next August."

The brand announces its arrival in the Vila Real district, with a store that will open next September.

Later this year, the company "will open its first supermarket in the Beja district," and the forecast is for it to happen "next September."

Supermarket openings in 2026

Also in 2026, Mercadona will debut in the Castelo Branco district, with the opening of a store in Covilhã. In the Algarve, two stores are planned to open, in Portimão and Faro. Further north, new stores will also open in Viseu, Amarante, Maia, and Esposende.

The Algarve stores will open after the summer.

Mercadona also intends to open online stores, although no date has been given for this segment in Portugal.
