A wild spot by the sea

Boca do Inferno is a natural rock formation near Cascais on the Atlantic coast. It is a cliff with a large opening, formed by the sea over many years. When the waves are strong, they crash into the rocks and shoot up through the opening, making a loud sound.

The name means “Mouth of Hell.” People gave it this name because the waves can be very powerful and noisy, and the dark opening in the rocks looks a bit like a mouth. The sound of the water and the force of the waves can feel intense, especially on windy days.

Today, it is a popular place for visitors. Many people come to enjoy the view, take photos, and watch the waves.
