Thunderstorms and a drop in temperature due to the passage of a depression are also forecast.
After days of mostly clear or sunny skies and temperatures, especially the maximum, "well above what is normal for this time of year," this change will be the result of the influence of a depression "that will be centred west of the continent, moving south, and will remain during the week between the Madeira archipelago and mainland Portugal," according to a statement from IPMA.
From Monday onwards, there will be increased cloud cover and a return of precipitation, starting on the coast of the southern region and gradually extending northward and inland, with more intense and frequent precipitation on Tuesday, which may be accompanied by thunderstorms.
The wind will predominantly be from the south quadrant, with gusts of up to 80 km/h in the high areas, also on Tuesday, 7 April.
A sharp drop in maximum temperatures is expected, with some areas reaching 10 degrees, while most of the territory will see maximum temperatures below 20 degrees.
The minimum temperature will drop slightly, ranging from 8 to 12 degrees.
For Monday, IPMA also forecasts dust, with a tendency to be displaced eastward from Tuesday afternoon, transported by the depression's circulation, which "will condition the forecasts for the coming days", creating a situation with "some associated uncertainty".
During this period, the institute also indicates that the swell on the west coast will increase on Wednesday, with northwest waves expected to reach four to five meters.
