According to information on the ANA website, two planes arrived earlier on 9 March, at 12:34 am and 2:02 am. However, between 2:02 am and 10:45 am this morning, no aircraft landed at Madeira International Airport – Cristiano Ronaldo.
Following the halt in landings after 02:02, two planes were diverted, and 20 arrivals scheduled for later today have already been cancelled.
Meanwhile, three planes managed to depart between dawn and early morning, but 20 scheduled departures for the rest of the day have been cancelled.
ANA warns that "weather forecasts indicate adverse conditions that may affect operations (departures and arrivals) in the coming days," recommending that travellers contact their airlines before going to the airport.
The Funchal harbour master's office issued warnings of rough seas and strong winds for the archipelago until 6 am on 10 April.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued yellow and orange weather warnings.

Why book your holidays on an island when you are never sure when to land or to be able to get out? Madeira is doomed with the current airport.
