A source from the municipality told Lusa that the council decided to approve the acquisition of 25 plots of land, essential to completing the Aveiro-Águeda Road Axis project, for a total value of €590,476.20.
The council's note states that the acquisition follows technical and negotiation work, with purchases made under private law and by amicable agreement. Owners and interested parties accepted the compensation values for the expropriation project.
The municipality will now sign the deeds of sale, while the expropriation process continues for the other plots.
In total, the process in the municipality of Aveiro involves the expropriation of 487 plots of land, totalling 538,621 square meters, as well as the establishment of 59 strips of land subject to administrative easements, totalling 4,605 square meters.
According to the municipality, the estimated financial costs of the expropriation process amount to €4,626,148.44, including compensation for the plots to be expropriated and the areas subject to administrative easements, based on valuation reports prepared by an expert registered on the official list of justice. The expenditure is duly budgeted.
The future Aveiro-Águeda Road Axis is considered a strategic infrastructure for both municipalities and the entire Aveiro region, with a significant impact on improving mobility, reducing costs and travel times for citizens and businesses, strengthening road safety, and promoting urban and business development, especially in areas currently served by the old EN230.
According to a municipal source, the future expressway will reduce costs and travel times between the two cities, as its 14 kilometres are expected to reduce the route length by approximately 40% and travel time by 65%.
The planned route, in motorway profile with two lanes in each direction, begins on the Águeda side at the so-called "Millennium roundabout," continues through Travassô, passes through Eirol, crosses the A1 and A17 highways, and ends at the Aveiro Fair and Exhibition Park roundabout.
