The Sam Loughnane House, run by Clean Slate NPO, is believed to be the only facility of its kind in South Africa dedicated to supporting prison-leaving women in such a holistic way. This house is not just a building; it is a place of restoration, dignity, and second chances for women leaving prison, escaping abuse, and facing homelessness.
But today, this vital refuge is at risk.

A House with a Story of Redemption
The building itself carries a powerful story. Once a dilapidated property that functioned as a brothel, it stood as a symbol of exploitation and despair. Through faith, vision, and significant investment, the team at Clean Slate transformed it both physically and spiritually into a safe, nurturing environment.
Today, it is a home where women are not only sheltered but restored, empowered, and equipped for a new life.
Within its walls, women are:
• Rebuilding their confidence and identity
• Learning practical skills through a sewing academy and beauty academy
• Becoming self-sustainable and reintegrating into society
Many have already gone on to live independently and contribute positively to their communities.
A Critical Moment
The organisation has now been given the opportunity to purchase the property they have been using, a chance to secure the future of this life-changing work.
However, they are currently €38,000 short of making this a reality.
Without this home, many vulnerable women will be left without support, stability, or hope. The loss of this property would mean more than just losing a building; it would mean losing a sanctuary that has already changed countless lives.
A Call to the South African Community in Portugal and Beyond
Portugal is home to a growing South African community, many of whom understand the deep social challenges faced back home. This is an opportunity to be part of something truly transformative.
Clean Slate is reaching out to:
• Churches to prayerfully consider taking up a special offering
• Individuals and families to make a donation, no matter how small
• Believers and communities to share this campaign and stand in prayer
Every contribution brings them closer to securing this home and continuing their mission.
Be Part of the Story
This is more than a fundraising campaign; it is an invitation to be part of a story of redemption.
A place that once represented brokenness is now restoring lives.
With your help, it can continue to do so for many years to come.

Brian Francis – A Life Redirected
Brian Francis left East London, South Africa, in 2004, chasing financial success in the United Kingdom but instead, he encountered Christ. That moment reshaped everything.
After serving in the British military and later running his own business, Brian felt a deep calling to return home not for comfort, but for purpose (Matthew 6:33 & 2 Timothy 2:4).
In 2019, he moved back to South Africa with his family and founded Clean Slate NPO, dedicating his life to walking alongside prison leavers and marginalized individuals. Through compassion, guidance, and practical support, he helps restore dignity and rebuild lives.
Brian believes the Church is called to do more than speak hope it must become it.
To him, faith is lived out by being God’s hands, feet, and voice in a broken world (Matthew 25:35-40).
