Agape Homeless has issued an urgent appeal on behalf of Philip, who is now living in extremely difficult conditions after losing his place in a homeless shelter while in hospital. After becoming unwell, Philip spent several weeks receiving treatment. During that time, he lost his bed—and now has nowhere to stay.

“We need to do more,” the charity says, highlighting the growing pressure on support services in the Algarve.

Philip is still recovering and struggles with mobility, making even short journeys for food or basic needs a challenge. With no access to shelter, he is currently sleeping in a broken-down, abandoned car. As temperatures begin to rise, the situation is becoming increasingly dangerous and unsustainable.

“He needs a place to sleep,” the charity stresses.

Agape Homeless continues to provide food and basic support, but emphasises that this is not enough. What Philip urgently needs is a safe, stable place to stay.

“Philip has a small pension—just enough for a modest room,” the charity explains. “However, in the Algarve, affordable housing is extremely limited, as many lower-cost rentals are increasingly used for short-term tourist accommodation.”

The charity is now appealing to the public: do you have a spare room? Do you have accommodation available, or know someone who does? Financial contributions towards rent could also make an immediate and life-changing difference.

The charity describes the situation as urgent, adding: “Together, we can help Philip get back on his feet.”
