The initiative, as per a press release, will promote “initiatives that make a difference to people’s lives, promoting health and access to essential preventive care.”

“With over 7,500 new cases a year and around 2,000 annual deaths, prostate cancer remains shrouded in stigma. Many men avoid screening for fear of discussing urological symptoms or potential changes in sexual function, and it is precisely this silence that so often delays diagnosis”, as mentioned in the press release by MAR Shopping Algarve.

During the campaign, “free PSA screenings carried out by Clínica HPA Saúde and encouraging early diagnosis as an effective form of intervention.”

“The main highlight takes place on 17 May, with the arrival at the Meeting Place of participants in the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride Algarve, who will ride vintage motorbikes from Faro to MAR Shopping Algarve. There will be live music from the band El Pavoni Harp & His Rockin’ Trio and DJ Rockindad, as well as a photo wall to mark the occasion.”

“We’ve reached the tenth edition, knowing that this project goes far beyond a campaign. Over a hundred men have been referred for treatment, and that is precisely what brings us back every year. ‘Prevent it Like a Gentleman’ is, for us, a tangible way of giving back to the community that welcomes us,” emphasises Ana Antunes, Director of MAR Shopping Algarve, stated in the note sent to the press.

The initiative, now in its 10th edition, “has enabled more than 2,175 PSA screenings to be carried out, with a detection rate of around 5% — more than 100 cases identified and referred for medical follow-up —, reinforcing the positive impact on the health of many men in the Algarve.”
