Known for its big waves, Nazaré is also a fantastic place for a day trip on the weekend.
Nazaré, located in the district of Leiria, is great for spending a great day, smelling the sea and witnessing some of the best Portuguese traditions. With various parking lots, it is easy to drive and park in Nazaré; however, it is also possible to go by bus, with the bus station being located close to the centre.
In a day, it can be possible to walk through the main avenue, by the sea, and find the best restaurants to eat local food, namely fish. As a village by the sea, seafood will be sought by locals and tourists.
To see a panoramic view of Nazaré, a funicular transport can be taken. While the views can still be appreciated from the means of transport, it is when the trip finishes that the most flabbergasting views are seen, showcasing the true identity of Nazaré.
Besides the sea, Nazaré is very linked to religion; thus, a visit to the Santuário de Nossa Senhora da Nazaré is almost mandatory for those who visit the village.
