Sustainability has emerged as the essential driver of Portugal's business sector's survival and expansion, no longer a marginal concern.

According to Rita Nabeiro, quoted by Executive Digest, President of BCSD Portugal, integrating environmental and social priorities into management is now the chief competitive differentiator in a global market facing significant transformation.

During the event commemorating the association's 25th anniversary, the Strategic Plan 2025-2027 was unveiled, outlining the roadmap for national companies over the next two years. The strategy rests on three pillars: investment in expertise and capacity building, strategic influence and dedication, and fostering innovation and collaboration.

According to Rita Nabeiro, who combines this post with leading Adega Mayor, the shift to a green and resilient economy is no longer optional but an urgent imperative for leaders.

The new plan gives particular emphasis to Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), aiming to transform what is often seen as a regulatory challenge into real opportunities for growth and efficiency.

To reinforce this mission, BCSD Portugal also announced the establishment of a new Advisory Board, strengthening the association's governance structure at a time when knowledge production and skills development are vital for the private sector.

According to the manager, the organisation's role in the coming years will be to consolidate a mobilisation platform between the business world, academia, and civil society. In a scenario of increasing demands for transparency and social impact, Rita Nabeiro concludes that the future of Portuguese organisations will inevitably be defined by their agility in placing sustainability at the core of their operation and long-term strategy.
