After actions taken from 2 December to 26 December 2025, Portugal is free from bird flu, DGAV stated.

The official validation of the avian influenza-free status is carried out by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).

In April, the DGAV had already lifted the obligation to confine poultry, given the reduction in cases, but warned that influenza had not yet ceased.

At the time, 26 bird flu outbreaks were confirmed in the 2025/2026 season, DGAV said. As Portugal looks ahead, continued vigilance will be crucial to maintain the country's avian influenza-free status.
