“In the first phase, starting on 4 May, the outpatient areas will be available, including consultations, clinical analyses, dentistry and imaging exams, gastroenterology and urology, among others,” the group states in a press release.
In a second phase, to be completed by the end of this month, the operating block (three operating rooms), inpatient ward (15 rooms), intermediate care unit (six beds), unscheduled care and oncology area will become operational, it adds.
The new hospital has an area exceeding 12,000 square meters, 50 consultation rooms, complementary diagnostic and treatment facilities, and aims to offer "differentiated care in areas such as cardiology, interventional gastroenterology, neurosurgery, oncology, and orthopaedics."
Technologically, CUF highlights the availability of "the first orthopaedic surgical robot in the region" and "differentiated and cutting-edge equipment," such as a 3D hybrid microscope and neuronavigation systems for pathologies of the skull and spine.
In the diagnostic area, in particular, it emphasises having "state-of-the-art medical imaging equipment," including magnetic resonance imaging, CT scans, and mammography.
As for the operating block, it is equipped with three operating rooms and "will allow for the performance of highly complex surgeries," supported post-operatively by an intermediate care unit with six beds.
Quoted in the press release, the president of the CUF Executive Committee states that the start of operations at the CUF Leiria Hospital represents the fulfilment of a commitment made to the region.
“The opening of the CUF Leiria Hospital reflects our commitment to strengthening the response capacity of the CUF network and bringing differentiated healthcare closer to the population,” argues Rui Diniz, emphasising that this investment “allows us to provide a more comprehensive response in demanding areas, such as oncology and complex surgeries, ensuring greater proximity and continuity of care for the populations of Leiria and surrounding areas.”
With this new healthcare unit, CUF highlights its “evolution from a local clinic,” which it inaugurated in Leiria in early 2023, to “a differentiated hospital, focused on providing high-quality healthcare in the region.”
Additionally, the CUF Leiria Hospital aims to establish itself as “a strategic partner of the community, focused on fostering partnerships to generate knowledge and innovation in the healthcare field.”
