In a statement, the exhibitor emphasises that the reopening marks "not only the return of activity to the complex, but also the return of cinema to the city of Leiria," where it is currently the only company exhibiting commercial films in the municipality and also in the district.
Consequence of bad weather
"After more than three months of temporary closure, following the flooding caused by the depressions that affected the region at the beginning of the year, Cinema City has completed the necessary work, and the safety and comfort conditions are once again in place to welcome viewers," assures Cinema City.
According to the information released, the reopening represents “a particularly significant moment for New Lineo Cinemas in Portugal, but also for the local community, which can once again enjoy the cinema experience in the city and follow the main film premieres”.
Important moment
Quoted in the statement, the CEO of NLC Portugal, Eyal Edery, considers the reopening of Cinema City Leiria “a very important moment”.
“We know the importance that this space has for the local community and we are very pleased to be able to welcome spectators again and return the cinema to the city, after a particularly challenging period”.
Without disclosing the costs of the intervention necessary to recover the complex, NLC thanks “the commitment, dedication and resilience shown by the Cinema City Leiria team throughout the entire recovery process, which were fundamental to making this reopening possible”.
Regarding the cinema exhibition service, the company is committed to “continuing to provide quality cinema experiences to the community”.
Reopening
Starting 21 May, Cinema City Leiria will reopen with "a diverse program," designed to "welcome back film lovers from the region and showcase the main film premieres."
Cinema City Leiria closed on 28 January, following the damage caused by Storm Kristin to the NorteSul shopping mall where it is located.
The situation worsened with Storm Leonardo on 4 February, whose intense rains caused flooding in the surrounding area, affecting all seven cinemas that make up the complex.
