SUPERCARS Endurance gets underway on 15 May at the Algarve International Circuit

SUPERCARS Endurance (also known as Iberian Supercars Endurance) gets underway on 15 May at the Algarve International Circuit, with an inaugural round that counts towards three championships simultaneously: Iberian Supercars, the Portuguese Speed Championship and Supercars España.

The competition was created with the aim of strengthening Iberian motorsport and meeting the ambitions of teams and drivers seeking a professional, competitive and balanced speed championship between Portugal and Spain. The format features 50-minute endurance races, with a mandatory pit stop, contested at some of the most iconic Iberian circuits. It is currently recognised as one of the most competitive championships on the Iberian Peninsula, also standing out for the quality and diversity of the field of cars on the track.

The races are open to teams of two drivers, with the experience and combination of both drivers determining the category in which they compete: AM (two less experienced Bronze drivers), Bronze (two Bronze drivers), Pro Bronze (one Silver and one Bronze driver) and Pro (a pair of Silver drivers). In the main GT4 category, around 30 cars and 60 drivers will be in action. In total, between GT4 and GTX, the weekend in Portimão will bring together more than 300 national and international motorsport professionals.

Aston Martin, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-AMG and Toyota, with the competitive Supra, are some of the brands taking part in a championship that runs until December and features big names such as Roberto Faria, a Brazilian and former FIA Formula 3 driver, Francisco Mora, a multiple national champion, Alexandre Areia, with an extensive list of achievements, and the Swede Joel Bergström, among other leading drivers.

This will be the official opening round of the season, counting towards the Iberian, Portuguese and Spanish championships. On Friday the 15th, track practice sessions will take place. Saturday begins with qualifying sessions to determine the starting grid, followed by the first race of the weekend in the afternoon. On Sunday, the action returns to the track with further races and more decisive moments in the battle for the championship.

The Iberian Supercars series is increasingly establishing itself as one of the leading competitions on the national and Iberian motorsport scene, visiting various Portuguese and Spanish circuits throughout the season. The season concludes in Portugal, at the Estoril Circuit, between 4 and 6 December.
