International Museum Day, celebrated on 18 May, is this year themed "Museums Uniting a Divided World" and is part of the national initiative "Chords of Peace," promoted by Museums and Monuments of Portugal, the Fortress announced in a statement.

The initiative will take place simultaneously with 26 performances featuring 35 choral groups, distributed across museums, monuments, and palaces across the country.

In Sagres, the first concert will take place on 17 May at 4 pm, featuring the Lagos Choir Group, conducted by maestro Vera Batista.

The program brings together works by Portuguese and international composers, such as "Acordai" by Fernando Lopes Graça and "Ode to Joy" by Ludwig van Beethoven.

According to the organisation, the initiative aims to affirm music as a "universal language capable of building bridges, promoting dialogue and reinforcing common belonging," in an international context marked by global tensions and challenges.

"This is precisely the spirit that guides 'Chords of Peace': uniting distinct voices in a collective gesture that celebrates harmony, listening and coexistence, remembering that culture has the power to bring people, communities and diverse worlds closer together," says the note.

The musical program concludes on 23 May at 4 pm with a guitar show by Gonçalo Duarte, organised in collaboration with the Impacto Ímpar Association.

Admission is free for both shows, subject to prior reservation.

In addition to the cultural component, the Sagres Fortress promotes other initiatives within the scope of the celebrations.
