According to a statement, three men, aged 22, 34, and 46, were identified on suspicion of drug trafficking.

“During coastal patrols and surveillance, the military detected suspicious movements south of Deserta Island,” the statement said, adding that the necessary maritime and land resources were mobilised to monitor the behaviour of the vessels.

The same source added that “the intensification of coastal surveillance has contributed to combating the threat of drug trafficking, preventing, this time, approximately four tons of drugs from entering the illegal circuit of this type of narcotic product.”

The GNR emphasises that daily, round-the-clock coastal patrols play a crucial role in safeguarding the region. These efforts, carried out under both the general and specific missions of the Coastal and Border Control Unit, help maintain security and deter illegal activities.
