It is “a commitment to a fairly balanced lineup, with an attempt, repeated year after year, to create a differentiated lineup, composed of well-known artists, also established in our national scene,” stated the Vice-President of the Angra do Heroísmo Municipal Council, Guido Teles, at the poster presentation.

For 10 days, Angra do Heroísmo celebrates Saint John with parades, popular marches, music, gastronomy, bullfighting, sports and exhibitions, among other activities.

Every year, the festivities feature three free-access stages, with lineups mainly composed of local bands, and a paid area, with nine days of shows and DJs.

This year's Bailão festival stage will feature Wet Bed Gang, Ivo Lucas, Matias Damásio, Vizinhos, Sippinpurpp, Mariza, Irina Barros, and Nuno Ribeiro, in addition to local bands Uzhoms and Art’Fado.

The festivities, organised by the municipality, have a budget exceeding one million euros, of which approximately 430,000 euros are allocated to the musical component.

According to Guido Teles, the municipality has been trying to "stabilise spending on the musical component," but has faced increasing difficulties year after year.

"We have seen a considerable increase in artist fees year after year. It's always a challenge, and an added challenge considering the extra costs we face as an island and ultra-peripheral region in producing these shows. Even so, I think we have managed to build a balanced program with strong names, and this year is no exception," he pointed out.

The mayor said that some international names were considered, but the municipality ended up "focusing mainly on national talent" because the international options were "too expensive" for "attractiveness to the local public."

"We understood that, within the names we were able to identify as potential opportunities for the Sanjoaninas festival, we wouldn't be better served than with these national acts. Therefore, we opted to focus on a lineup with strong names from the national scene, also with the aim of bringing in some who have never been here before. It's also a big challenge after so many editions. And there are nine nights of concerts," he emphasised.

Even so, the municipality decided to maintain the ticket prices practised for more than 10 years: 30 euros for a weekly pass and 15 euros for a daily pass.

The Sanjoaninas festivities are among the busiest times of year on Terceira Island, and expectations this year are for another large crowd in the streets and at tourist accommodations.

“Even taking into account that Ryanair will not be serving Terceira Island this year – and this will obviously have an impact on the entire summer – I believe that it will not have such a big impact on the Sanjoninas festivities, because the festivities themselves are sold almost a year in advance. There are already many people who prepare their trip to the Sanjoninas well in advance,” said the vice-president of the municipality.

The mayor highlighted the growing demand from people from other islands, the mainland, and emigrant communities, not only to watch but also to participate in the festivities, citing as an example the number of registrations for the São João marches, which once again broke a record with 43 adult marches and eight children's marches.

The number of gastronomic establishments scattered throughout the city is also expected to break a record in 2026, with nearly a hundred restaurants and taverns.

“The Sanjoaninas, fortunately, have already gained a reputation and visibility, which ends up attracting many people who like to come and celebrate with us and like to come and celebrate São João with the people of Terceira at this time, and so we sincerely have good prospects,” emphasised Guido Teles.
