The free event, promoted by the municipality, combined pop-up restaurants, musical performances, and tastings from local producers, solidifying its position as a central meeting point on the city's cultural agenda.

The heart of Viseu's historic centre once again came alive with the spring edition of "Dão no Mercado" (Dão at the Market).

The emblematic Mercado 2 de Maio hosted the event, which celebrated the wines of the Dão Demarcated Region, regional gastronomy, and local culture, taking advantage of the longer, milder days of the season.

With free admission, the initiative once again established itself as one of the main attractions for promoting and showcasing local products, attracting residents and visitors to an open, convivial atmosphere in the heart of the city.

Visitors could also taste the various regional wines at the event by purchasing a wine glass.

The official opening of the event was marked by a toast promoted by the Dão Regional Wine Commission, which set the tone for the opening of the food stalls and producers' stands.

The weekend program heavily featured musical entertainment to complement the gastronomic experiences, extending into the nights.

The first day featured the energy of DJ Rocha e Rock and a U2 tribute concert by Bloody Sundays, while the second day picked up the pace with Banda Bela Noia and the duo composed of DJ UBORGES and Alessandro on saxophone, culminating in a popular "Dão Party". The closing followed a more traditional line, bringing the Cantorias' authenticity to the market.

In terms of gastronomy, the public had the opportunity to sample exclusive offerings created by four renowned pop-up restaurants in the city: O Sabor, Home, O Legado, and Aromático 54, bringing the best of Viseu's cuisine to the market area.

To accompany the meals, the wine sector was represented by nine producers and estates from the Dão region.

The space functioned as a showcase for sharing and business, allowing for tastings and direct sales of wines ranging from the most historic and established references to new labels that confirm the current vitality and innovation of the Dão appellation.

The success of the initiative resulted from a strategic partnership for territorial promotion, with the event being jointly promoted by the Municipality of Viseu, the Parish of Viseu, and Viseu Marca.

The "Dão no Mercado" event also had the support of the Martinauto Group, AHRESP, and Dão Wines, reinforcing the role of the restored Mercado 2 de Maio not only as a commercial and gastronomic space, but as a dynamic hub of entertainment and social cohesion in the city centre.

Beyond its gastronomic and cultural offerings, “Dão no Mercado” plays a vital role in fostering a sense of belonging among residents and strengthening the ties between local producers and the wider community.

The event not only highlights Viseu’s rich traditions but also supports the local economy by promoting regional products and attracting visitors from outside the city. Its continued success underlines the importance of such initiatives in preserving and celebrating Viseu's unique identity, ensuring that locals and tourists can experience the very best the region has to offer.
