In a Portuguese delegation led by captain Cristiano Ronaldo, who at 41 is preparing to compete in his sixth World Cup finals, the coach announced the call-up of four goalkeepers: Diogo Costa, José Sá, Rui Silva, and Ricardo Velho.

In the centre of defence, Tomás Araújo surpassed the competition from António Silva, his teammate at Benfica, who was left out, while Samu Costa, from the Spanish club Mallorca, was called up for the midfield, having already been at the March training camp, while João Palhinha is absent.

Regarding the attack, striker Gonçalo Guedes, from Real Sociedad, was called up by Martínez, with Paulinho, Ricardo Horta and Pedro Gonçalves being left out of the final list.

In preparation for the next World Cup, Portugal will play two friendly matches: first on 6 June against Chile at the National Stadium in Oeiras, and then on 10 June against Nigeria in Leiria.

After travelling to Palm Beach, in Miami, Florida, where its training centre will be located, the national team will compete in Group K and is scheduled to debut on 17 June against the Democratic Republic of Congo in Houston, with the match starting at 6 pm Lisbon time.

Next up is debutant Uzbekistan, on 23 June, also in Houston and also scheduled to start at 6 pm, with the group closing on 27 June, with Portugal facing Colombia in Miami, in a game that starts at 00:30, on 28 June.

The 2026 World Cup will take place from 11 June to 19 July in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
