On 22 March, a Jet2 plane had to make an emergency landing at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport in Porto as one of its pilots suffered a heart attack, The Sun reported.

The incident took place at 2:11 am, and according to passenger accounts, the flight attendants asked if there was a doctor on board the plane due to “an emergency in the cabin.” The landing was reportedly made by the plane’s co-pilot, and after the plane landed safely at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, the first pilot was immediately transported to the hospital.

A passenger described the incident to The Sun: "My companion and I were asleep when we were woken up by the chaos. The lights started flickering, and the flight attendants, visibly disturbed, looked for a doctor.”

He added: "My two-year-old son started crying, like many other children on board, because the aircraft was descending very quickly for an emergency landing."

Another passenger recounts that the airline informed the passengers that the pilot had suffered a heart attack in the cockpit.

After the emergency landing, the 220 passengers were stranded in the airport for 13 hours without accommodation, with some passengers describing how they were “left to their own devices.” The airline reportedly said that lodging all passengers would be too expensive.

Jet2 has confirmed that the plane was diverted to Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport due to an emergency, and all passengers were offered a free flight with Jet2 back to any of its 14 destinations in the United Kingdom.
