Passengers arriving at Faro Airport this morning are facing lengthy passport queues, with some travellers reporting waits of close to an hour after landing.

The delays appear to be affecting several incoming flights at once, as the Algarve heads into one of its busiest weekends of the early summer season. Monday’s UK bank holiday is likely contributing to the increase in passenger numbers, with thousands of British tourists arriving in the region for long weekend breaks.

Photos and videos shared by passengers show long lines stretching through the arrivals area, particularly at passport control for non-EU travellers.

Faro Airport traditionally sees a sharp rise in traffic during UK holiday weekends, especially from London, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol routes, which remain some of the Algarve’s busiest connections.

Despite the queues, flights themselves appear to be operating normally this morning.
