According to data released by the Castelo Branco Honey Processing Plant, "in 2025 there was a significant drop in production, a consequence of adverse weather conditions and rural fires, which caused considerable losses and, in some cases, total losses of bee herds."

The Honey Processing Plant, managed by Meltagus - Association of Beekeepers of the International Tagus Natural Park, reached its peak production in 2024, with 71 tons of honey extracted and 15 tons of wax.

In the 2025 harvest, 59 batches of honey were extracted, of which 27 belonged to beekeepers in the Castelo Branco region, totalling 44 tons.

During the same period, the honey processing plant recorded the drying and sorting of 2,800 kilograms of pollen, a record annual figure, and the moulding of eight tons of wax.

The data was released during the official opening of the 2026 extraction campaign, which also marked Meltagus' 22nd anniversary.
