The development follows an agreement between IHG and Braga-based company Hotel Janes, owned by ABB (Alexandre Barbosa Borges), which will see the upcoming Esperança Hotel join IHG’s Vignette Collection brand.
The new 58-room hotel is being created through the renovation and expansion of a 19th-century building on Rua de Janes, close to Braga Cathedral. The property previously housed Casa Esperança, a decoration store that closed in 1999, and parts of Braga’s medieval wall have also been incorporated into the project.
The hotel is expected to open in September.
According to IHG, the addition of the Esperança Hotel will increase the Vignette Collection’s presence in Portugal to six properties, including hotels already operating and others currently under development.
Vignette Collection is one of IHG’s luxury brands and focuses on more distinctive, independently styled hotels integrated into local surroundings and heritage buildings.
