The proposal concerning border screening procedures was approved with votes against from the PS, Livre, PCP, and Bloco de Esquerda, abstentions from Chega, PAN, and JPP, and votes in favour from PSD, Iniciativa Liberal, and CDS.

The proposal on the conditions and procedures for granting asylum received votes against from the PS, Livre, PCP, Bloco de Esquerda, PAN and JPP, abstentions from Chega, and votes in favour from PSD, Iniciativa Liberal and CDS.

Further discussion

The two proposals will now be discussed in the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees, following criticism from the left during the general debate that took place on Thursday in parliament, mainly because of the detention of minors.

Non-approved bills

Other bills and resolutions presented by the parties on this subject were also voted on, but none were approved.

Bloco de Esquerda presented a bill to prohibit the detention of minors arriving in Portugal, but it received votes against from the PSD, Chega and CDS, abstentions from the Liberal Initiative, and votes in favor from the Left Bloc, PS, Livre, PCP, PAN and JPP.

The Livre party submitted a bill similar to that of the Bloco de Esquerda, to strengthen the protection of children in Temporary Accommodation Centres, which received votes against from the PSD, Chega, and CDS parties and votes in favour from the Bloco de Esquerda, PS, Iniciativa Liberal, Livre, PCP, PAN, and JPP parties.

Chega also presented a resolution recommending to the Government the enhancement of the staff of the National Foreigners and Borders Unit (UNEF), creating a salary supplement, but it received votes against from the PSD, Livre, Left Bloc, and PAN parties, abstentions from the PS, Liberal Initiative, PCP, CDS, and JPP parties, and votes against from Chega.

The JPP put forward a draft resolution recommending that the Government ensure the effective participation of the Autonomous Regions, which was rejected with votes against from the PSD and CDS, abstentions from Chega and PCP, and votes in favor from PS, Iniciativa Liberal, Livre, Bloco de Esquerda, PAN, and JPP.
