The announcement was made by Cristina Vaz Tomé during a public transport conference held at the Cais do Sodré river terminal.
"We cannot stick to the schedules of the past. We must respond to the present," emphasised the Chair of the Board of Directors of Metropolitano de Lisboa, assuring that there is alignment with the Government.
Cristina Vaz Tomé explained that the pilot project to start metro operations one hour earlier, currently 06:30am, will begin in October this year.
These tests will allow us to fine-tune this arrangement for the official launch in January 2027, she added, noting that a definitive model has not yet been established, particularly regarding whether the change will include weekends.
Cristina Vaz Tomé also mentioned that these changes entail modifications to the concession agreement.
Metropolitano de Lisboa operates four lines daily: Yellow (Rato-Odivelas), Green (Telheiras-Cais do Sodré), Blue (Reboleira-Santa Apolónia), and Red (Airport-São Sebastião).
Normally, the metro operates between 06:30am and 01:00am.
