AIMA announces opening of Renewal Portal for expired Residence Permits

In an online publication, AIMA reveals that the Renewals Portal, aimed at Residence Permits expiring in September and October 2026, is now open.

The agency states that those with Residence Permits set to expire between September and October 2026 must visit portal-renovacoes.aima.gov.pt to renew their Residence Permits.

According to AIMA, the agency will “continue working towards bringing forward the opening of the Portal to the coming months, in order to meet the needs of citizens.”

Well, I was SO hopeful. But when I clicked on the link, I got this error message: Error 404
The system is unable to find the requested action "2026-06-29". entirely fitting.

It is great TPN reports these things, however it does help the thousands of people who have been waiting for their renewal since December last year.
Many are delayed by over 3 months and others who cannot return home to Portugal because their resident card has expired.
Very sad way to run a country.

There are thousands of us who have been waiting for months after properly submitting our applications. AIMA keeps announcing they're opening up for more people to apply. Many of these people are getting approved ahead of those of us that have been waiting.
Imagine going to the CTT post office or your Pharmacy. You take your number and stand in line to be helped. Then they put in a different numbering system and skip all of you that have been waiting in line and start helping the people with the new numbers. That is exactly what keeps happening to us.

Here's an idea for you. How about you resolve the cases of people who've been waiting for months before you start working on new cases. Make the pending cases a priority. Every few weeks we see an announcement that AIMA is opening the portal for new applications, but many of us have been waiting for months or even more than a year with absolutely no contact whatsoever from AIMA. They will not respond to emails they will not answer the phone. We are stuck with expired permits
