In a statement sent to the media today, the Intermunicipal Community of Terras de Trás-os-Montes (CIM-TTM) notes that, following several weeks of high temperatures and with another heatwave forecast for the country's interior, it is promoting the “Together, We Protect Our Land” awareness campaign. This initiative seeks to highlight the impacts of climate change and mobilise the community to adopt more sustainable and resilient behaviours.

According to Pedro Lima, president of CIM-TTM, who is quoted in the statement, “climate change represents one of the greatest structural challenges to the sustainable development of our territory, with growing environmental, social, economic, and institutional impacts, which makes action increasingly urgent.”

“We need the help and commitment of the entire community to mitigate its impact and protect our territory. With this campaign, we want not only to raise awareness but also to provide the population with practical information on how to take action,” he emphasised.

According to the CIM, over the coming month, the campaign will feature on local radio, in the regional press, on social media, and in public spaces with a single message: climate action depends on everyone's involvement, and every gesture counts toward building a more resilient region.

“The initiative addresses six key areas for the future of the Terras de Trás-os-Montes region: protecting people and resources, efficient water management, valuing agriculture and forestry, energy efficiency, opportunities linked to the climate transition, and sustainable mobility,” the CIM explains.

Under the slogan “Together, We Protect Our Land,” the campaign aims to reinforce the awareness that protecting the region is a shared responsibility and that the response to climate change depends on joint action.

The campaign is part of a broader set of initiatives developed under the ECO-SMART TTM project; the results will be publicly presented in the coming weeks at an event dedicated to climate action and the sustainable future of the Terras de Trás-os-Montes region.

This campaign stems from the “ECO-SMART TTM – Joint Climate Action in Terras de Trás-os-Montes” project, funded by the Norte 2030 Regional Program, and is aimed at the populations of the nine municipalities that make up the region.
