The annual ranking was compiled following an assessment by more than 1,000 travel industry professionals, who evaluated beaches across the globe based on a range of factors, including natural beauty, environmental preservation, tranquillity, wildlife, and ease of access to the sea.

While the global title went to Entalula Beach in El Nido, Philippines, the top three was completed by Fteri Beach on the Greek island of Kefalonia and Wharton Beach in Western Australia.

In the Algarve, Praia da Falésia secured 43rd position, but Portugal’s presence extends beyond the global list.

According to Publituris, the country also features prominently in the European ranking, with three beaches recognised among the continent’s 50 finest: Praia da Falésia, Praia do Seixal in Madeira, and Praia do Camilo in Lagos.

The 2026 edition of “The World’s 50 Best Beaches” recognises destinations spanning every corner of the world, from tropical islands in the Pacific and Indian Oceans to stretches of coastline in Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia. Beaches in countries such as Greece, Spain, Italy, Australia, Thailand, Mexico, Brazil, the Maldives, Seychelles, South Africa and Ireland all feature in this year’s selection, reflecting the diversity of coastal landscapes distinguished by the panel.
